Step 1: Get Java

    Check the system requirements (right side of this page). Make sure you have an appropriate version of Java installed.

Step 2: Download the installation package

    BlueJ version 3.1.0
     
    for Windows 2000, XP, Vista or newer (6.9 Mb) bluej-310.msi
    for MacOS X 10.7.3+ (101 Mb; includes JDK 7) BlueJ-310.zip
    for MacOS X 10.7.2 or earlier (5.8 Mb; requires JDK 6) BlueJ-mac-legacy-310.zip
    for Debian, Ubuntu and other Debian-based systems (5.6 Mb) bluej-310.deb
    all other systems (executable jar file) 5.8 Mb) bluej-310.jar

    (If your browser tries to display the file, instead of downloading it, then use "Save link as.." which you get when you right-click or shift-click the link.)

 

Once you have downloaded the file, go  to the Installation Instructions.

System Requirements

You need to have Java 6 or Java 7 (also known as JDK6/JDK7) installed on your system. Get it here:

Note that only the version labeled JDK will work. Not the one labeled JRE, nor the one that comes with NetBeans, nor the EE version.

Debian/Ubuntu users should install the JDK via the package management system rather than using the links above. See the installation instructions.

On MacOS X 10.5+, a recent Java SDK version is installed by default. You do not normally need to install Java on this system. See here for more information.
